Aquaculture as a growth market
Aquaculture technology, of which United Food Technologies is one of the leading providers, is considered a highly attractive growth industry, both in Europe and the rest of the world. Aquaculture and aquaculture technology are growing rapidly world-wide. According to expert estimates, around one third of all fish catches are today already covered by aquaculture products, with a strong upward trend forecast for the years to come.
Joe Borg, European Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, puts this development in a nutshell: “Aquaculture is becoming increasingly more significant to the European fish market. Diversification is absolutely vital for its continuing development, as is the preservation of a balanced and healthy environment.”
This applies both to fish species whose natural stocks are threatened by overfishing, as well as to fine delicacies such as sturgeon meat and the original caviar obtained from the same fish. It is precisely this attractive business sector on which United Food Technologies AG focuses in particular. The caviar cultivating farm in Fulda in Germany, which is run by our business partner DESIETRA GmbH, became successful with the use of UFT technology. Today, it is the only profitable aquaculture caviar farm in a closed recirculation system on this scale world-wide!
